Kew Village Lights

Each year, Kew Village is illuminated to create festive cheer. There is a substantial annual cost for installation, storage, maintenance, sectional replacement and dismantling.  The funds for the lights are raised from fundraising events, donations from local businesses and residents and council grants.

To see how the specialist contractors install the lights, watch our short video below.

Why do we fundraise for the Kew Village Christmas Lights?

Over recent years, due to cuts in Government funding, council contributions for Christmas lights have diminished and organisers have had to find ways of funding the shortfall.

There is a substantial annual cost for installation, storage, maintenance, sectional replacement and dismantling of the lights.

A specialist contractor is used, whose workers are specifically trained to install, remove and store the lights each year.  Before installation, all the lights are tested to ensure we meet legal and safety standards.   Actual installation and removal is labour intensive, with a team on cherry pickers working late at night and in the early hours of the morning to ensure minimal disruption.

Each year, the Kew Sparkle Committee seeks alternative quotations to ensure that the current supplier is still competitive.  We are currently working with Light Angels.
